A Must-See Music Experience
Rolling Stone: Amplified is more than just an art installation — it’s an immersive journey through the legacy of Rolling Stone magazine, one of the most influential cultural voices of the last six decades. Located in Chelsea, NYC, this music history experience captures the spirit of rebellion, journalism, and evolution that defined generations.
The space, ARTECHOUSE — set inside the former boiler room of Chelsea Market on West 15th Street — retains its industrial bones, adding a gritty, authentic atmosphere. It has been transformed into a high-tech, sensory-rich environment that bridges the past and present, perfectly reflecting the magazine’s evolution from a 1967 San Francisco counterculture journal to a global media powerhouse.

The exhibit chronicles Rolling Stone’s influence on music, politics, and pop culture. Visitors can explore rare magazine covers, behind-the-scenes photography, iconic interviews, handwritten editorial notes, and immersive installations that simulate concerts and recording sessions. It’s a blend of journalism and performance — part gallery, part club, and part time capsule.
What makes Amplified stand out is how it balances nostalgia with relevance. While it honors legends like Dylan, Nirvana, and Prince, it also highlights modern acts like Chappell Roan, showing how Rolling Stone continues to shape contemporary culture. It’s not just about looking back — it’s about connecting the dots to what’s happening now.

This exhibition manages to take you through multiple eras of rock within its dynamic installation space. The projections transport you across different scenes and time periods — from the gritty world of punk rock and its various movements, to the evolution of hip-hop, all the way to the Sunset Strip in Hollywood during glam metal’s heyday.
The exhibition also includes a bar on the upper floor featuring signature cocktails inspired by the installation itself. Behind the bar is a massive name wall celebrating icons of rock and roll — from The Beatles to David Bowie, from Bon Jovi to Linkin Park — cementing the magazine’s role as an enduring cultural tastemaker.

Whether you’re a die-hard Rolling Stone reader, a music history buff, or simply exploring Chelsea galleries, Rolling Stone: Amplified is a compelling stop. It offers a rare opportunity to feel the pulse of decades of cultural evolution — and to witness how the magazine’s legacy still beats strong today.
