If you're familiar at all with the Shure SM7B microphone, you are aware of 3 facts. Fact #1 - the 7B is a great vocal mic. Fact #2 - the 7B has a painfully low output. Fact #3 - Fact #2 makes it very hard to take advantage of Fact #1. The Crimson 7UP solves this problem. Because of it's internal construction, any ribbon microphone has much less ability to supply "power" to it's "signal" than a SM7B. Technically, we would say the ribbon mic has a higher outtput impedance than the 7B, and this requires a higher input impedance from the device it's feeding - the preamp. The 7B on the other hand, can not only lower impedance, sonically it thrives on it.
