In the late '60s, players like Jimmi Hendrix, George Harrison, Eric Clapton (and more) famously refinished their favorite guitars with colorful makeovers that suited the times—but the way ahead of its time, ’69 Paisley Tele was the first “factory stock” psychedelic era masterpiece.
Instantly recognizable, the 69 Fender Pink Paisley Tele is a Hallmark of legendary guitarist/Elvis Presley bandleader James Burtin and one of the most iconic guitars ever to leave Fullerton, California.
From Fender’s legendary Custom Shop and the Guitar staff at Alto Music, we are pleased to present this subtly unique version of the “Krylon covered” classic. At a glance, the keen-eyed observer might notice that this isn’t a Telecaster, but its brother, the one pickup Esquire. Furthermore, this Paisley classic sports the best of 50s feel and tone, iconic '60s look, and a touch of modern playability.
The light relic’d Paisley (top and back) sports a lacquered finish over the two-piece Ash body for authentic looks and resonance. It has a clear 50s-style 5-hole Esquire guard. The late-60s-style 3-barrel bridge houses a fat-sounding ‘51 “No-Caster” flat-pole pickup and relic 50s Esquire control plate. The neck is cut from plain-grained rock maple and finished with a light coat of medium-tinted Nitrocellulose for authentic looks, stability, and a fast, smooth feel. The neck shape is a carefully thought-out combination of elements, from a hand-filling .009” to .990 deep “U” 1954 carve, medium-vintage Jescar frets, and a modern 9.5” radius.
This unique creation is made in limited numbers for alto music. Serial #R132816 (pictured) comes with a 50s-style Tweed Fender Custom Shop Case, COA, and Case Candy, weighing only 7 lbs. on the dot.
