The GA-8000 PSU is a replacement power supply for the Golden Age Premier GA-8000, Golden Age Premier GA-800g, and Sony C-800G microphones.

The GA-8000 PSU is a modernized update to the classic power supply, forgoing tube rectification in favor of solid state, while also including a FET-based stabilizer for the high voltage rail. We employed star-grounding techniques to better optimize the signal-to-noise ratio beyond the spec of the original. Finally, we leveraged audiophile-grade PCB design techniques including massively oversized copper traces for maximum electrical transmission, and Elna capacitors for reduced microphonics and vibration.

The result is smooth, natural capture of the source sound with improved signal propagation speed and lower equivalent series resistance, (ESR) which improves efficiency, reduces heat, and extends the lifespan of the capacitor and related components.

Rigorous listening tests convinced us to choose a solid-state rectifying circuit over the tube-based approach of the original design. The solid-state architecture won by a landslide sonically—with the added benefit of removing long-term maintenance cost and hassle with no need to replace tubes.
