Recognizing a demand for some of the most famous pieces from their vintage catalog, Neumann have at long last re-issued the classic U67 tube microphone. The result of several years of planning and consideration, Neumann have thoughtfully re-created every aspect of the original design; from its K67 capsule and original circuit design and microphone body to its exact original reproductions of the venerable EF86 pentode valve and German BV12 output transformer. So close is the new U67 to its historic counterpart, that all of its basic components (power supply, cable, and microphone) are fully interchangeable with those of models made during its original production run.
Our team were among the first to hear the new Neumann U67, and can say with full confidence that any engineer with experience working with the original will not be disappointed. Every sonic detail and characteristic from the original classic seems to be faithfully captured in this reproduction, from the energetic, somewhat forward midrange to the crisp, open and detailed, yet ever slightly subdued top end to the rich, almost resonant quality it delivers to the lower registers of the human voice.
As much as ever in the past, the U67 holds an indispensable place in the professional studio mic locker. From voice to electric and acoustic guitar to drum overheads, from music to spoken word, the Neumann U67 still remains a top choice for experienced recording engineers. With working vintage units growing more scarce and more costly with each passing year; Neumann’s U67 re-issue has arrived right on time.
