“Reference” is a new Selmer Paris concept which combines acoustic and ergonomic characteristics of several famous previous Selmer Paris models with the qualities of today’s top design and manufacturing. The Reference series currently proposes two tenor saxophone versions: the Reference 36 and Reference 54 Each model has a specific tone color: the “reference 36” features a rich, open tone in the tradition of “Balanced Action” first released in 1936. The more centered “reference 54” incorporates the famous Mark VI design which came out in 1954.

Inspired by the 1936 Super Balanced Action, the Selmer Paris 84 Reference 36 tenor is a professional saxophone that integrates the Super Balanced Action's legendary acoustic characteristics with innovative modern key work and better intonation. A major favorite among jazz saxophonists, the Reference 36 tenor saxophone offers a full, rich, bright sound. The keywork of the Selmer 84 tenor saxophone is extremely fluid and reacts well to even the most wicked licks; some may say they keywork is smoothe like butter. 

The Reference 36 comes complete with shaped flight case, Selmer Paris Super Session mouthpiece, cap and ligature, and care products. Join the legions of jazz saxophonists that have rediscovered the sound of the legendary Super Balanced Action and have made the Selmer 84 Reference 36 tenor saxophone their horn of choice. It plays, feels, and looks like a vintage Selmer, including longer bell to improve intonation and a beautiful rose lacquer finish.
